Managers represent artists and are usually their closest collaborators. Their tasks are highly varied but generally cover the business side of their clients’ careers.

Managers help identify the right partners, such as record labels, bookers, publishers, and other key industry players. They oversee communication with these partners and work with them to develop the artist’s career. This includes planning releases, organising tours, strategic development, and assisting with contracts.

The role of a manager is therefore often both complex and extensive and relies on a close relationship with the artist. Some artists sign formal agreements with their managers, while others keep the relationship informal. It is always recommended to consult a lawyer before signing a management agreement.

In most cases, managers are paid a percentage of the income they help generate. Typically, this commission is around 20% of the artist’s net earnings.
