Promoters organise concerts and music events, overseeing both their execution and marketing. Their role is to match the right artists with the right venues and audiences. Promoters may work independently or for venues, festivals, or event companies. In many cases, they operate as large-scale businesses and may also own music festivals—such as Iceland Airwaves or Sena Live.

Promoters work closely with booking agents and managers and are often experts in their local markets, making them a crucial link in international touring and collaboration. In smaller markets like Iceland, these roles frequently overlap. Managers often also handle booking and event production—Iceland Sync, for example, operates across all of these areas under one roof.

The promoter assumes the financial risk of the event and is responsible for any potential loss. Artists are typically offered a guarantee, a fixed minimum fee paid regardless of ticket sales. If the event performs well financially, the artist may receive an overage—an additional payment based on a pre-agreed percentage of the net profit, often 75–80%.

This arrangement ensures the artist earns a secure minimum fee, with the possibility of extra income if the concert is successful.
