To mark the release of Vetrarsól by the indie-folk band Árstíðir, Iceland's Music sheet music team has compiled a collection of sheet music featuring the songs performed on the album.
Árstíðir gained international attention in 2013 for their rendition of “Heyr, himna smiður” by Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson. Since then, the band members have regularly worked with a cappella songs, often weaving them into their live performances. Eventually, they decided to record some of their favourite pieces from over the years, resulting in the album Vetrarsól — a carefully curated selection of traditional Icelandic vocal and choral works that reflect the country’s rich musical heritage.
Iceland Music's sheet music library manages around 12,000 works by Icelandic composers, including the pieces Árstíðir perform on the album. It therefore felt only natural to gather these works in one place and make them accessible to anyone who wishes to explore or perform these beautiful songs themselves.
