The Icelandic Music “Þakkarorða” to be Presented on December 1st at Harpa
The Music Council Celebrates Magnús Eiríksson and Invites The Nation to Join
The beloved composer and lyricist Magnús Eiríksson will receive the Icelandic Music Þakkarorða (e. Gratitude Award) at a ceremony in Harpa on December 1st, the Day of Icelandic Music. The honour is awarded by the newly established Music Council, and is intended to recognise the work of the selected artist while also offering the public a unique musical celebration.
The Music Council operates in accordance with the Music Act approved by the Icelandic Parliament on May 10th. Its role includes advising the government and Iceland Music on music-related matters, participating in policy development, and fostering the growth of Icelandic music. The Minister of Culture and Business Affairs appoints members to the Music Council for a three-year term. The council includes representatives from the Icelandic Association of Authors and Composers, the Association of Record Manufacturers, FÍH, STEF, RÚV, the Music Department of LHí, Reykjavík Music City as well as 10 other stakeholders.
Þakkarorða - A Musical Celebration in Eldborg
To mark the occasion, the Music Council is inviting the public to a concert in honour of Magnús Eiríksson in the Eldborg Hall at Harpa at 8:00 PM on December 1st. Some of Magnús’s best-known songs will be performed by many of the country’s leading artists including Bríet, Ragga Gísla, Pálmi Gunnarsson, Ellen Kristjáns, Mugison, KK, and Valdimar Guðmundsson, along with a stellar ensemble of instrumentalists under the musical direction of the brilliant Eyþór Gunnarsson. The event will be hosted by Jón Jónsson and Salka Sól.
Members of the public can attend the concert by obtaining a free ticket through the Harpa website at harpa.is/takk, starting at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 29th. The first batch of tickets sold out in less than an hour and as the ticket availability is limited we encourage all interested parties to act quickly so they don't miss out on this unique event." The concert will also be recorded and broadcast as part of RÚV's holiday programming between Christmas and New Year's, allowing as many people as possible to experience this spectacular musical event.
