To celebrate the upcoming Reykjavik Folk Festival on March 20–21, we invited Snorri Helgason to take the reins of our Iceland Music Acoustic playlist.
Snorri’s festival performance, titled "An Ode to Icelandic Folk," sees him joined by folk ensembles BREK and Umbra, along with "folk-pop" artist Svavar Knútur. Together, they will perform the definitive cream of Icelandic folk music through the ages.
Curated in the spirit of the concert, Snorri’s playlist reflects the nation’s rich folk heritage while offering a keen insight into the best of the contemporary scene.
There is quite simply no better companion for a quiet dinner than this playlist:
Beyond his appearance at the Reykjavik Folk Festival, Snorri is preparing for a performance at Salurinn in Kópavogur on March 26. Part of Jón Ólafs’ "Af fingrum fram" concert series, he will be joined on stage by his wife, Saga Garðarsdóttir.
Looking ahead, Snorri is planning a new album of acoustic covers. His vision is to "Bon Iver it" - retreating to a cabin in a thick flannel shirt and a beanie to record everything himself.
Finally, a short film based on three tracks from Snorri’s recent Borgartún album is expected this autumn. Directed by Snæfríð Sól Gunnarsdóttir from a screenplay by Magnús Leifsson, filming is set to begin in late March.
