From August 7–9, Seigla Music Festival returns to Harpa for its sixth edition. Since its inception, the festival has sought to create a space where exceptional musicians and audiences meet in an intimate setting. Built on curiosity, closeness, and dialogue, Seigla focuses on crafting musical experiences that leave room to listen, reflect, and connect.

This year’s overarching theme is the braid, an idea born out of a collaboration with the Elja chamber orchestra. Seigla invites performers and audiences alike to approach the theme from various angles, exploring how threads of music, text, space, and human connection can weave together into a meaningful whole.

The main events will take place in Norðurljós and Harpuhorn. Among the performers is the aforementioned Elja chamber orchestra, appearing on both Saturday and Sunday evenings—first with a concert dedicated to the life and work of Julius Eastman, and later featuring popular music reimagined through unexpected arrangements. The festival also welcomes Danish chamber choir Det Unge VokalEnsemble, performing both Icelandic and Danish works, alongside the premiere of Phaethon by Veronika Voetmann. The program further features opening concerts centered on nature spirits and folklore, a program dedicated to mothers, new pieces inspired by national parks, and works for cello and piano exploring the relationship between time and space.

This year also introduces Litla Seigla, a new side program running alongside the main schedule. Designed for families, this series of free events focuses on play, movement, and active participation.
