The metal festival Sátan takes place this weekend (June 5–7) in Stykkishólmur. Twenty-four bands will perform, and the variety is immense. Among others, you’ll find Icelandic acts such as death metal pioneers Sororicide, proto-metal band The Vintage Caravan, and Viking metal group Skálmöld, alongside international legends like Carcass and Discharge.
Alongside the concert schedule, the festival offers a highly ambitious off-venue programme consisting of workshops, panels, podcasts, and all kinds of events. These include a conversation between Bibbi from Skálmöld and former president of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson under the title “In Defence of Valhalla”; bass and guitar workshops hosted by Maddi (Forgarður Helvítis, Beneath etc.) and Þráinn Árni (Bastardur, Skálmöld, Sororicide); a runic studies session led by historian Teresa Njarðvík; a concert by the folk-punk band Hemúllinn; and a live broadcast of metal radio show Stokkið í Eldinn, featuring a chat with The Vintage Caravan.
The festival’s off-venue programme is open to all, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Stykkishólmur!
