Iceland in focus at Les Arcs Film Festival 2024:A broad celebration of Icelandic Creativity

Iceland Music is pleased to announce its participation in Les Arcs Film Festival 2024 which will take place from December 14-21, in the heart of the French Alps. Iceland has been picked as the festival’s focus country and in addition to hosting the music delegation and concerts by Icelandic artists the festival will screen 20 Icelandic films. The festival is a major cultural event which aims to promote the diversity of European cinema and this years edition offers a unique opportunity to experience the contributions of Icelandic music and cinema to the cultural landscape of Europe.

Icelandic Composers Representing the Country

This year, the Music Village at Les Arcs will highlight Iceland’s contributions to film music and live performance, emphasising the strong ties between the music and film industries. Three of Iceland’s leading composers will take part in the Music Village:

  • Herdís Stefánsdóttir: The accomplished and internationally recognised composer will also serve as a member of the festival’s Feature Film Jury. Her work includes scores for Knock at the Cabin and The Sun Is Also a Star.
  • Eðvarð Egilsson: Known for his emotionally rich compositions for film such as the score for Smoke Sauna Sisterhood and Quake.
  • Atli Örvarsson: globally established composer whose work spans projects such as The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Eagle. Atli is attending as executive producer of The Fires, selected for a special screening at the Work in Progress section of the festival.

Live Performances by Icelandic Artists

The festival will also feature live performances by two Icelandic artists:

  • Lúpína will perform at the festival's Opening Party on December 14. Known for her somber and scintillating synthpop, Lúpína’s latest album, Marglytta, has been praised for its intricate soundscapes and evocative lyrics. 
  • Högni Egilsson, one of Iceland’s leading composers and performers, will take the stage at the Industry Village on December 16, joined by violinist and composer Viktor Orri Árnason. Högni’s recent work includes scores for Katla and Touch.

Other professionals from Iceland’s music sector will also participate in the program, reflecting the diversity and strength of the country’s music industry:

  • Salka Valsdóttir, artistic advisor and musician.
  • Sveinn Geirsson, composer and producer.
  • Katrín Helga Andrésdóttir, director and writer of HEX.
  • María Rut Reynisdóttir, Director, Iceland Music.
  • Signý Leifsdóttir, Senior Advisor, Iceland Music.
