To mark Innovation Week and World Intellectual Property Day, Iceland Music, the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office, and STEF hosted an educational event at Bird on Thursday 15 May.
María Rut Kristinsdóttir, Managing Director of Iceland Music, opened the programme with a talk on the value of Icelandic music. Borghildur Erlingsdóttir, Director General of the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office, spoke about the importance of IP rights for musicians, and Guðrún Björk Bjarnadóttir, CEO of STEF, discussed the fight against illegal use of music by AI companies.
Next came a spotlight on innovation and industry: Ólafur Bjarki Bogason and Kári Einarsson from Genki Instruments presented a new musical instrument and shared some entertaining stories from the patent process. Sindri Ástmarsson of Sena offered a behind-the-scenes look at Iceland Airwaves, and Soffía Kristín Jónsdóttir, agent and co-owner of Iceland Sync, spoke about the international marketing of Bríet’s music.
Salóme Katrín performed a few songs for the guests, and DJ Silja Glömmi closed the evening with a set.
