
Last night, Thursday 4 December, Alaska1867 & Whyrun, Ásta, knackered, Kusk & Óviti, LucasJoshua and Rakel received the Kraumur Awards. This is the eighteenth year the awards have been presented. In selecting this year’s award-winning albums, the jury reviewed close to 500 Icelandic albums and releases issued throughout the year.
The jury nominates 20 albums that stand out in terms of quality, ambition and originality, and from these, six artists ultimately receive awards. The Kraumur Awards are not tied to any particular genre, and no subcategories are used.
In total, close to one hundred artists and bands have received the Kraumur Award for their albums, most of them early in their careers. Past recipients include Agent Fresco, Ásgeir, Cell7, Daníel Bjarnason, Elín Hall, FM Belfast, GDRN, gugusar, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Hjaltalín, Ísafold Chamber Orchestra, JDFR, Kælan Mikla, Lay Low, Mammút, Moses Hightower, Ojba Rasta, Ólöf Arnalds, Retro Stefson, Samaris, Sin Fang, Sóley, Supersport!, Una Torfa - and many more.
