Emiliana Torrini Is Number One In Germany!
Emiliana Torrini made Icelandic music history last week when her single "Jungle Drums" managed to top the German singles charts. The single is strong in its position and looks set to stay at the top this week, meaning a probably Gold status (150,000 sales). Airplay of the single remains massive, with around 1000 plays per week which also got "Jungle Drums" to No. 4 of the airplay charts.

Icelander Featured In Beck's New Record Club
Icelandic musician / Thenewno2 member Þórunn Antonía Magnúsdottir was recently involved in a new project by US superstar Beck. Called Record Club, the informal venture involves getting people into the studio to re-interpret a classic album in a day. With no rehearsals and nothing arranged ahead of time, a track and video is uploaded once a week on www.beck.com ..."

Fans of experimental artist Kira Kira will be pleased to know she has three live dates this month. You can catch her idiosyncratic show at Trästock Festivalen (Sweden) on July 16th; Stockholm Jazz Festival the day after (July 17th); and at the delightfully titled Plink Plonk Festival in Tartu, Estonia on July 18th.

Traditional Icelandic Music Workshops in Scotland
Icelandic folk performers and educators Bára Grimsdottir and Chris Foster will be teaching and performing in Scotland this month and next. The duo will be taking part in a series of summer schools (organised by The Living Tradition) which will include an instrumental week based around guitar, mandolin and harp (19th-24th July at Dundee University), a second week at Brodick Castle on the Island of Arran (27th - 31st July)...
