Iceland Airwaves Is Underway!
The mighty Iceland Airwaves Festival is officially up and running (as of yesterday) and Reykjavik is, as speak, literally drowning in sound. As always, every space in the Icelandic capital, from cafes to hairdressers, living rooms to churches, has been dutifully transformed into a temporary concert venue in order to cram in the sheer wealth of talent on display.
If you haven't yet seen the full schedule you can find it here and you'll be pleased to know there are a few people blogging and tweeting about it on a regular basis. Not only are the Airwaves team busy uploading TV webcasts but the Reykjavik Grapevine have a special section of their website devoted to all things Airwaves, where they upload daily reviews of every show, photos, news and interviews. Also, Icelandic music aficionados Ben H Murray and Mark Ollard (of the IceBlah blog) will also be busy tweeting throughout. You can follow their reports here and here.
To add to the merry musical mayhem, gogoyoko, Havarí Record Shop, Kimi Records and Borgin Records have also teamed up to offer even more sonic delights during the event, in the shape of a series of off-venue shows in Havarí (Austurstræti 6). Their program will run non-stop through Sunday and you can check out the line up here.
More music than you can shake a stick of freshly buttered harðfiskur at? You bet - and then some!
