KJARR is a new project lead by Kjartan F. Ólafsson, previously known for his work in duo/trio Ampop (Kjartan is also currently the keyboard player with local rockers, Leaves). While the first single "Beðið eftir sumrinu" (released may 2011) has generated some curiosity among music bloggers and enthusiasts as the song was initially only relased as a radio only single, the second single called "Quantum leap" has just been released, and is available through Gogoyoko as well as Bandcamp (see: kjarr.bandcamp.com).
The debut album, which was recorded over the course of three years, is finally ready and will hit the shelves of Icelandic record stores later this year. Songs are written & produced by Kjartan Ólafsson, who plays piano, guitars, theremin, omnichords and other oddities while being assisted by the very firm musicianship of Leaves frontman, Arnar Guðjónsson (bass) and drummer, Nói Steinn Einarsson. Also Baldvin Ringsted (a.k.a. Bela) contributes sophisticated guitarwork to a couple of tracks on album. So far critics have described the music of KJARR as rich in flavour, with a hint of psychedelia, and recalling High Llamas and Beach Boys.
