'Aðför að lögum', Megas Og Strengir

'Aðför að lögum' is the latest album by enigmatic musical maverick Megas, an artist beloved by fellow innovators including Björk and The Fall's Mark E Smith. In fact, this is Megas and Strings (Megas Og Strengir), an excellent concept; and the release is something of a family affair, including string arrangements by Megas' composer son Thordur Magnusson.

These arrangements of Megas' work, as premiered at the Reykjavik Arts Festival in 2010, features Megas, of course, singing in his inimitable vocal style plus leading string players Helga Thorarinsdottir, Havardur Tryggvason, Zbigniew Dubik, Sigrun Edvaldsdottir and Bryndis Halla Gylfadottir, all members of the Caput Ensemble members who you can see at the upcoming Dark Music Days festival.

Magnusson explains that 'Aðför að lögum' is "a little bit of a post-modern meltdown of different styles, Mussorgsky, Ravel, McCoy Tyner, Beethoven, Ligeti, Hanns Eisler, Bernard Herrmann, Chopin among with other influences and of course the main influence, Megas himself."
