Orgelsmiðjan was founded in 2009 by the producer/engineer Magnús Øder and Haraldur Levi, owner of the independent record label Record Records.

Orgelsmiðjan is one of the best equipped recording studios in Iceland with a big list of various instruments, amplifiers and microphones, both new and vintage.
