May 06, 2012 at 11:31pm

Exciting news! Sigur Rós have been announced as the headliners of this year's Iceland Airwaves, playing the festival for the first time in 11 years.

In their first hometown show for four years, the band will close the festival with a performance at the new Laugardalshöll Arena on Sunday November 4. With a spectactular expanded 11-piece line-up, the band will play material from across their entire catalogue, including their upcoming sixth studio album, 'Valtari'.

Tickets for this special performance go on sale on Wednesday May 16 at 12 noon GMT via midi.is, and they are available at the special low price of 3,900 ISK to anyone holding an Iceland Airwaves ticket, on a single-ticket, first-come-first-served basis until June 16.

And there's more fabulous Sigur Rós news! 'Varúð', an ace new track from 'Valtari', is available to stream online - plus singer Jonsi has confirmed the band will be visiting Australia later in the year.

Jonsi revealed the exciting news in an interview with Drowned In Sound, stating that they would be doing a “short North American tour and a few European dates as well as the festivals, then we’re off to Australia". This would be the first time the band have toured Australia since appearing at the Splendour In The Grass festival in 2008. (Jonsi appeared at the festival in 2010 to promote his solo album 'Go'.)

And what about that track, then? Well, it premiered recently on BBC 6Music to rapturous response, and you can hear it here:
