Sigur Rós Launch Valtari Film Experiment
May 21, 2012 at 3:37pm
Just days after the fabulous 'Valtari' worldwide listening party Sigur Rós held on their website, the band have announced they have commissioned 12 film makers to create a movie for each track from the new album - and the first film has been revealed this very day!
Each film maker has been given a small budget for the project which aims to allow for total creative freedom.
'We never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response.' says bassist Georg Holm. 'We don't want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it. With the films, we have literally no idea what the directors are going to come back with. None of them know what the others are doing, so hopefully it could be interesting.'
The directors include the Ragnar Kjartansson, award-winning Alma Har'el, John Cameron Mitchell, director of 'Hedwig & The Angry Inch', Arni and Kinski, who have worked on the band's videos in the past, and feted US photographer Ryan McGinley.
The series of films is launched today (May 21st) with a film accompanying 'Ég anda' from Kjartansson.
