Composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir's star continues to rise - her album Rhizoma was hailed as New York radio station Q2's 'Album Of The Week' last week.
Q2, one of the leading classical music stations in the US, praises the album's grandeur and sense of enchantment and magic - check out what they said here, and have a listen to the spooky track 'Hrim' while you're at it, which is available as a free download.
Rhizoma consists of three larger pieces for orchestra and chamber orchestra, punctuated by five smaller movements from a solo percussed piano work. The works are performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bedroom Community star Daniel Bjarnason, the Icelandic CAPUT Ensemble conducted by Snorri Sigfus Birgisson, and percussionist Justin DeHart.
The album is released by American new music label Innova Recordings and is distributed by Naxos. Smekkleysa distributes the album in Iceland.
