Anna Thorvalds / ICE Ensemble NY Workshop
February 26, 2013 at 10:22am
Award-winning Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir is heading to New York to workshop a new large-scale piece with the International Contemporary Ensemble. The piece will be shown on March 15th and is free to attend.
The composer's new evening-length ICElab piece creates a detailed instrumental landscape where sounds are translated into light and light changes signal musical action.
And, as we previously reported, Anna is also one of the Icelandic artists featured in Washington's Kennedy Center's Nordic Cool festival, which is currently underway. There, her orchestra piece Aeriality will receive its US premiere at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on March 4th at 7:30pm, performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. (Other fabulous Icelandic artists on the Nordic Cool bill include / have featured FM Belfast, Retro Stefson, Sóley (the previous three as part of the Iceland Airwaves showcase), Víkingur Ólafsson, Sunna Gunnlaugs, Maximus Musicus and Duo Harpverk amongst others. For more details on Nordic Cool and the artists taking part, take a look here!)
And the public showing of Anna's New York ICElab work-in-progress will be presented at the ICEhaus on March 15, 2013 at 6:30pm. Reserve your place here!
