Hafdis Huld

Hafdis Huld

Hafdis Huld has a growing reputation for being one of the most entertaining performers to ever grace a stage or an interviewer’s couch. It’s a lot to do with her wonderful voice, and songs full of vivid images and catchy hooks, and it’s partly that she is undeniably beautiful.  But it is also her disarmingly charming banter and storytelling skills:

“When I was younger I set up a circus in a friend’s garage we had 15 people in there every night. I used to tie a rope around my sister’s waist – she was only 5 at the time - and throw her over a pulley.  She would fly in the air in a batman costume, until my mum came in one night and went “Oh My God!”.

Her MySpace profile has clocked up an audience equivalent to more than half the population of Iceland, and her Facebook page is a constant hive of activity.  A very active online presence has helped to make her a truly international artist, and she can claim fans in over 30 countries around the world.

Hafdis is a former member of Gus Gus and erstwhile collaborator with electro-outfit FC Kahuna and Tricky.  Her debut solo album, 'Dirty Paper Cup' won Best Pop Album at the 2007 Icelandic Music awards and featured songs co-written with Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys), Pascal Gabriel, Boo Hewerdine (Natalie Imbruglia, Eddi Reader) and Chris Corner (Sneaker Pimps).  The album received considerable acclaim from the world's music press and brought her to the attention of national radio in the UK.

Her second album, 'Synchronised Swimmers' was released in 2010 and licensed to independent labels across Europe and the USA.  Produced by French Grammy award winning producer Calum MacColl and Alisdair Wright, the album gave Hafdis three Icelandic number one singles and raised her profile worldwide.

During 2010, Hafdis played an official Midem showcase, two international tours, UK and European festivals, over 20 live radio & TV sessions and signed a worldwide publishing deal with the highly respected independent publisher, Bucks Music.

2011 will see her first independent tour in the USA.
