The annual music festival and summer courses Við Djúpið is held in Ísafjörður in the West Fjords of Iceland around summer solstice, offering series of concerts and master classes.

During the last 8 years the festival has offered master classes and concerts with nation wide and world wide known artists, such as Erling Böndal Bengtsson, cellist and Vovka Ashkenazy, pianist, Janett Williams, soprano, Andrew Quartermain, pianist, as well as the Pacific Quartet and Nordic Chamber Soloists Wind Quintet, Evan Ziporyn, clarinettist, composer and a member of the renowned band Bang on a Can gave a master class and concert in Ísafjörður during Við Djúpið 2007 and among performers at the 2008 festival where Pekka Kuusisto, violinist with Simon Crawford-Phillips, pianist and Håkon Austbø, pianist.

The festival takes place in Ísafjörður (further) and surroundings where music has been part of daily life for a long time. Ísafjörður Music School is the main venue of the festival as well as Rögnval

Event History:The festival was held for the first time, in June of 2003, in the town of Isafjordur and Bolungarvik. The founders were Gudrun S. Birgisdottir and Petur Jonasson. Among the performers from the start are: PACIFICA, Gudrun S Birgisdottir flute player, Petur Jonasson guitarist, Jonas Ingimundarson pianist, Olafur Kjartan Sigurdarsson baritone singer, Halldor Haraldsson pianist as well as several other great performers. In 2006, Tinna Thorsteinsdottir and Greipur Gislasson, took over as the directors of the festival and got performers such as Sigrun Hjalmtyrsdottir soprano singer, Peter Mate pianist, the music group ATON as well as other fantastic performers. Tinna left the festival in 2008 and Dagný Arnalds took over with Greipur in June 2010.The aim of the festival is to offer as diverse performances as possible, from Icelandic music to standard jazz music and more.

In 2011, Við Djúpið is set to go on from June 21-22, so reserve those dates now. Featured at the 2011 festival: Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir, cello Alessio Bax, piano Kurt Nikkanen, violin.
