Icelandic Blues

• Andrea and the Blues Men • Marel Blues Project and others

Andrea Gylfadóttir, Iceland’s Queen of the Blues, promises an unforgettable evening as she steps on stage with her Blues Men.  This is a tight-knit group of experienced musicians who have been performing together for years. Andrea and the Blues Men have been enchanting audiences for over two decades and they get even better as time goes on.

The Marel Blues Project will open the show for Iceland’s Queen of the Blues. All of the band members have one thing in common – they are all employees at Marel and have traveled the world over performing on behalf of the Marel company. This band attracted a lot of attention and praise at the Reykjavík Blues Society concert in February, 2012.

Concert at the Hilton Nordica Hotel – Wednesday, April 4th

• John Primer from Chicago , Tregasveitin & others

Grammy Award winner, John Primer is the headliner at tonight’s concert. His experience as a rhythm guitarist for such legendary artists as Magic Slim and the Teardrops, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon have contributed to his style. His partnership with these artists, and the way their styles interlocked so seamlessly, led to the sound that John brings to the stage to this day—a sound that ‘true blues’ fans will have a chance to hear at this year’s Reykjavík Blues Festival. Very few living bluesmen are able to interpret authentic Chicago blues with such emotion and precision and for this reason John Primer is known as “The Real Deal”.  John Primer will perform with the Blue Ice Band.

The concert will begin with the return of the legendary “Tregasveitin”, as they are known in Icelandic. This band is one of the pioneers of blues in Iceland and played a major role in making the Icelandic ‘blues scene’ what it is today. It will be exciting to hear Pétur Tyrfingsson and his band after all these years – an occasion to look forward to.

The Ironman Michael Burks & the Blue Ice band and Vintage Caravan

Michael Burks, who’s earned himself the nickname “Iron Man” is  a major contemporary blues figure. He successfully blends intense electric guitar blues with unbridled rock and roll energy. Burks, who shot to the top when Alligator Records released his first album in 2001, has since then captivated audiences with his talent as a musician and extremely physical performance style.

Michael “Iron Man” Burks has through long years and experience developed his own unique style, which was in part inspired by artists such as Albert King, Freddie King and Albert Collins.  Michael Burks will be performing with The Blue Ice Band.

Also appearing this evening is the Icelandic blues-rock trio, Vintage Caravan. They’ve received well-deserved acclaim for their powerful music and energetic showmanship. Only 17 years of age, the musicians in Vintage Caravan show remarkable maturity in their music.
