The band For a Minor Reflection has been active for over two years now. It started as a hard rock duet in a small garage in Vesturbærinn, Reykjavík, then got into an indie rock trio which lasted for about a week or so, after that a blues quartet and then finally the type of band they are today, an instrumental post-rock quartet.
It's put together by four 19 years old boys from Reykjavík, Iceland. Their music is best described as energetic and melodic post rock although they're expanding their music style more and more by each song. They've gotten a lot of compliments for their powerful and entertaining live performances and have often been compared to Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. They've even been titled as "a band with the potential to out Mogwai" by Sigur Rós 2007.
The members are Kjartan Holm who plays guitar, Guðfinnur Sveinsson who plays guitar and piano, Elvar Jón Guðmundsson who plays bass and finally Jóhannes Ólafsson who plays the percussion. For a Minor Reflection have been playing almost non-stop since they got started at local cafés and bars in Reykjavík. Recently they played at LungA festival (on the east coast of Iceland) along with playing for over 500 people who travelled with the Japanese Peace Boat throughout the whole world when they stopped in Iceland.
For a Minor Reflection played at the Iceland Airwaves 2007 for the first time at Grand Rokk and got tremendously good feedback from the crowd. After that, number of people and bands from all around the world got in touch with them. Following in april 2008, they did a two-week tour with 7 shows in USA and 3 in Canada.
The boys have recorded and released their debut album all by themselves called Reistu þig við, sólin er komin á loft... (in english: Rise and shine, the sun's up...). The hour-long debut contains 6 songs and was recorded over a weekend in Iceland. Right now they're writing new songs for their second LP album, that'll maybe contain some type of vocals, who knows...?
"For a Minor Reflection" will play as a supporting-band in 14 concerts in Europe coming November with Sigur Rós.
