The Icelandic band Hjálmar started out as reggae experiment, mixing sunny reggae with Icelandic musical roots. The band has released three albums and received gold record awards for each of them, as well as number of Icelandic Music Awards and nominations. In the summer 2008 the band released the song “Dom hinner aldrig ikapp” together with the Swedish rapper and hip hop artist Timbuktu. The song hit the charts in Iceland and many are excited to see if something more will come out of this unexpected artistic cooperation.
The band’s fourth album, coming out in September 2009, has been awaited with much excitement. It was recorded partly in Tuff Gong and Harry J studio in Jamaica where Hjálmar teamed up with local reggae legends who all make their mark on the album.
