Icelandic Music Export has teamed up with the Trade Council of Iceland to explore the latest creative and business development trends in music and media in an exciting international conference titled:
You Are In Control!
As more and more people are consuming music, income from music sales is steadily decreasing. “Downloads without payment”, “usage over ownership”, “streaming” and “social networks” are all new terms that call for new partnerships, new business models and new ways of releasing music and working processes.
Who is gaining? Who is losing? These are the questions being asked as the creative industries experience swift and dramatic changes. Are these changes good for art, for niches, for creative types? Or are we lacking investment in new developments? Can artists now be entrepreneurs? Is this the dream era of DiY?
You Are In Control! will take place at Hótel Saga, Hagamelur, 107 Reykjavik, between the 15th - 16th October, 2008. The conference has specifically been timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Airwaves. Various high profile speakers from around the globe will attend and speak at the conference, including Bad Taste representative/Ghostigital vocalist Einar Örn Benediktsson, Electronic Arts mogul Steve Schnur, Hype Machine’s Anthony Volodkin and Ninja Tune’s Laura Search.
